Director, Musician Casting

RWS Entertainment Group is currently seeking a Director, Musician Casting to serve in the RWS Talent Department.

The Director, Musician Casting will cast an entire project from beginning to end, working closely with a team of musician casting managers and creative teams. This director will strategize on how to successfully run audition sessions based on the specific needs of each client for all members of the team. This role will also schedule appointments with agents/managers, help facilitate rehearsal schedules, music direct (must have music direction experience), ensure artistic integrity and creative is implemented and finessed in the rehearsal process, as well as checking, managing and documenting musician availabilities. The Director, Musician Casting will be expected to travel in order to seek out talent.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Strong industry contacts and knowledge of audition posting platforms and audition standards for musicians.
  • Develops and maintains a continuous growing network of talent resources and recruitment opportunities through relationship building with music schools, colleges, agencies and any related outlet for musicians.
  • Ensure continuous research and analysis of the competitive landscape and recruitment trends of the industry to ensure we remain relevant and functional within the musician expertise landscape
  • Have a good understanding and utilization of forward-thinking sourcing, marketing and branding techniques to engage both active and non-active candidates. An understanding of online tools is essential and should include LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and diversity-oriented sites & blogs
  • Ensure strict and consistent compliance with EEO, equity and diversity policies set forth by the company
  • Creates, schedules and facilitates the organization of auditions, showcases, concerts, etc. to seek out new sources of diverse talent and serves as a brand representative for
  • national and international audition tours.
  • Evaluates each musicians’ skill set such as, originality, performance quality, fit for brand, overall production value and suitability for selected projects and demographic. Also reviews submitted audio selections and or/videos.
  • Identify the potential in young talent as well as handling established talent.
  • Have experience with sourcing specialty acts and musicians of all disciplines (in addition to strings, brass, percussion, rock, etc.).
  • Creating contracts and budgets with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Moderate to substantial traveling with evening and weekend availability.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years professional experience in musician casting, with a focus on cruise ships, theme park entertainment, rock and classical concerts preferred
  • Can identify and evaluate an individual musician’s technique, sound quality, reading skills, intonation, section playing, accuracy, improvisational skills and repertoire knowledge in various styles. 
  • Ability to identify high quality levels of entertainment including stage presence, band presentation, audience interaction, ability to speak comfortably and naturally on a microphone, etc.
  • Excellent communications skills with strong self-managed decision-making abilities.

  • Should be comfortable navigating business documents with strong ability to write and generate internal reports and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of national and international audition markets (beyond NYC and/or LA)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to organize, multitask, prioritize, and work under stringent deadlines
  • Resourcefulness and proactivity in problem-solving
  • Motivation, loyalty, passion, integrity, drive, and self-direction
  • BFA/BA degree in Music or comparable work experience
  • Proficiency in Mac as well as Word, Excel, and other MS Office applications

A valid passport for the duration of employment for all travel-related roles. Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (or proof of exemption) will be required.

Status: Mobile

  • Mobile (in NY/NJ/CT Metro Area): Team members who are pre-approved to regularly perform their job responsibilities remotely up to two (2) days per week, with three (3) days per week operating out of the RWS New York City headquarters.

Salary: $80,000 annual exempt salary
