Named by The Wall Street Journal as “one of the world’s more prominent design firms,” JRA plans, designs and realizes exceptional theme parks, attractions, museums and brand experiences around the world.  Established in 1987, the company employs a team of creative writers, planners, designers, media producers and project managers within its Cincinnati, Ohio studios. 

JRA is part of RWS Entertainment Group, a global, Emmy Award-winning entertainment company with headquarters in New York City, London and Cincinnati. Together with its subsidiaries, RWS designs, fabricates, installs and operates custom entertainment, live events and branded experiences delivering over 400 live productions and providing more than 4,500 career opportunities each year.

Reporting to the President of JRA and working closely with the Vice President of Design, the Creative Director will help to set and improve the artistic standards necessary to maximize JRA’s creative success with projects, creative proposals, and business development endeavors. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Acts as the creative visionary for the company.
  • Facilitate creative workshops (internal and external) for proposals and projects.
  • Oversee the early-stage creative direction on all projects.
  • Provide analytical skills to implement a firm understanding of the overall creative goals / end objectives of the company.
  • Assist business development by participating in pitches and presentations as needed.
  • The writing and design of unique and well-crafted copy for projects and proposals. 
  • Oversee the creative work developed in the design studio to ensure quality control, creative vision, innovation, and consistency in studio product. 
  • Work with the VP, Design to establish a design studio environment that inspires and motivates staff to maximize creativity and workflow.
  • Establish and maintain a creative standard for JRA that allows our company to compete effectively in our industry.  
  • Assist with company brand standards and all brand-related communications. – heading, implementing, and enforcing brand campaigns to maintain brand consistency across all channels.  
  • Assist with translating marketing and business development objectives into creative strategies.  Providing ideas and concepts for potential projects / clients and market segments to pursue.
  • Work closely with the Vice President, Design to proactively adjust staff for proposal,  project delays, changes, new requirements, etc.  
  • Assist the Vice President, Design with proposal and project inception to establish staffing plans and strategies.
  • Work with the Vice President, Design, and the design staff to develop methods to improve efficiencies in design work process.
  • Work with the Vice President, Design to develop standards among the design staff to ensure a comprehensive and consistent interpretation of the JRA scope of work and deliverables.
  • Participate with the Vice President, Design with regularly scheduled design staff reviews / evaluations.
  • Assist the Vice President, Design to develop and manage training and resources for coops and interns.
  • Search and distribute new information, techniques and trends in planning and design to the design team as available.
  • Establish a database / sample library of industry leading supply vendors to guide current and future projects in trends and innovation.
  • Maintain an awareness of and constantly research current trends in marketing and design to allow JRA to stay on the cutting edge in our industry.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of each platform’s user experience and interfaces to be able to adequately advise and guide staff in all platforms and medium.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in design, art, scenic design, architecture, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of design experience for an entertainment company, theme park group, or theatrical production company
  • Inquisitive with strong interpersonal skills and outstanding attention to detail.  Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated copywriting ability
  • Experience in leading creative brainstorming sessions with colleagues and / or clients 
  • Ability to passionately present business development opportunities for potential new clients 
  • Ability to mentor design staff
  • On the pulse of what’s “new and next” in the entertainment markets
  • Comfortable in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, deadline-driven, high-energy environment; a team player with ability to coordinate cross functionally
  • Experience with Hootsuite, Wrike, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, AEC Suite and Box a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the year, both domestically and internationally

Status:

  • Mobile (Greater Cincinnati Area): Team members who are pre-approved to regularly perform their job responsibilities remotely up to three (3) days per week, with two (2) days per week (typically Mondays and Thursdays) operating out of the RWS/JRA Cincinnati Headquarters.

Salary: Executive Level Position – Salary will be based on experience.
